ASG’s Doug Koeneman and Lutheran Child and Family Services’ Sven Schumacher are joining forces to fight hunger in Indianapolis.

What: A five-day, 33.7 mile fundraising hike across Switzerland 

Where: Spiez to Fribourg, Switzerland

When: September 1-5, 2026

Why: The hike represents more than miles traveled. It’s a commitment to ensuring that no family has to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for families facing food insecurity.

Who benefits: The Sharing Place Food Pantry, which helps provide food for families in need in the Indianapolis area

Most people are on the margin — they have periods where they've got to choose: keep power on, get gas in the car, or put food on the table. That's a food security issue. And when you're trying to lift yourself out of that and really improve yourself, going hungry really isn't a good option. People who haven't had that issue don't understand.

What's the Sharing Place?

The Sharing Place is an Indianapolis food pantry staffed by volunteers that has been providing food to people who need it for 40+ years. It feeds 81,745 people each year and 60 homebound people each month. 

Who visits the Sharing Place and why?

People hit by an unexpected expense, seniors on fixed incomes, people between jobs, veterans, single parents, recently arrived immigrants, people dealing with medical costs that crowd out groceries and others

How does the food pantry work?

People can visit and receive food twice each month. The food is free.
