What’s the NFC Forum?

NFC is an acronym for Near Field Communication, the technology behind tap-to-pay contactless payment. The NFC Forum brings together experts from global companies like Apple, Google, NXP, SONY, Huawei and Infineon, along with their technical brains to create standards for these high-tech processes and build others’ awareness of them, Mohammad said.

The forum is also a governing body of the standard and a compliance program that ensures the reliability and interoperability of connections.

“The NFC Forum aims to bring the convenience of near-field technology to life,” Mohammad said. “It empowers organizations to deliver secure, tap-based interactions with an intuitive, reliable experience to users around the globe.”

Why is the NFC Forum important?

Its members make decisions to advance NFC technology and create useful cases for connected products. “The forum’s member-led activities include the development of specifications and test cases, a certification program and special interest groups,” Mohammad said. “They all work to identify and evangelize contactless technology in a number of industries.”

What does the position entail?

Mohammad will serve as the vice chair for a special interest group focused on the Internet of Things. He’ll work with technical representatives from several different companies. Mohammad’s term of service is two years. His responsibilities will include research oversight, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

What does Mohammad’s appointment mean for ASG?

“It puts ASG in the driver’s seat of a global forum that promotes cutting-edge technology in near-field communications,” Doug said. “It’s a prestigious honor for Mohammad, and we’re proud of him and his work. We’re eager to learn from him and expand on our knowledge so we can do more for our clients.”
